GNANOCAPS

GNANOCAPS , Nanomaterial-based supercapacitors, the next generation of highly efficient energy storage devices.
Project number 967024
GNANOCAPS is poised to revolutionize high-power energy storage with the development of innovative electrode materials. Utilizing Gnanomat’s patented hybrid materials platform, GnanoCaps aims to create a new generation Energy Storage devices with unparalleled performance. This project goes beyond technical innovation, encompassing a comprehensive evaluation of commercial viability, including scalability, cost-effectiveness, freedom-to-operate, and regulatory considerations.
Gnanomat is leveraging its extensive expertise in advanced materials for energy storage applications to develop GnanoCaps, a whole technology that incorporates the electrode materials developed in the GNANOCAPS project. GNANOCAPS focuses on incorporating optimized hybrid materials into the device electrodes, promising superior performance compared to current supercapacitor market standards.
A core principle of the GNANOCAPS is environmental responsibility. The devices will utilize aqueous electrolytes, eliminating the environmental risks associated with leakage from traditional electrolytes and ensuring safe and sustainable operation. This eco-friendly approach opens a wealth of new business opportunities in applications demanding clean and reliable energy solutions. GnanoCaps technology targets key sectors such as offshore wind farms, maritime applications (ports), and environments where safety is critical. The technology has the potential to provide a safer alternative to explosive-risk technologies like Li-ion batteries, particularly in aircraft environments or in the presence of flammable gases (e.g., in Tedex atmospheres). The combination of high performance, inherent safety, and environmental sustainability positions the GnanoCaps for significant market disruption and a leading role in the future of energy storage.
TheGNANOCAPS project is funded by the programme “Ayudas a proyectos con sello de excelencia dentro del Programa Acelerador del Consejo Europeo de Innovación”. These funds are co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund for projects that have obtained a Seal of Excellence within the European Innovation Council Accelerator program (EIC Accelerator, including the pilot phase), under the Horizon Europe Program (2021-2027) to promote business investment in R&D&I, for 2024.
